Net delivered to the RCA

CWB have delivered a mobile net to the Rwandan Cricket Association to celebrate their 10 year anniversary celebrations. The net was donated courtesy of Tildenet http://www.tildenet.co.uk/. Joe Downey, CEO of Tildenet is to be a volunteer on the Kenya Spring project. The net will allow both the national team and club players to be able to practice on Rwanda’s first grass wicket.

As Andy Hobbs said: (CWB Trustee)

“This is a really important tool for both elite and club players in Rwanda to be able to a have a decent practice facility. It will allow the players to be able to hone and develop their techniques in an environment not dissimilar to players in the UK. A huge thanks to Tildenet for the donation. These things make a huge difference to developing cricket in Africa.”

The following email from Adam who CWB put in touch with the Rwanda Cricket Association gives more detail.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to send a big thank you to Cricket Without Boundaries for supplying the RCA with a mobile net.  The net arrived last week and has been sitting in the cricket shed waiting to be assembled.  You will be happy to hear that we put the frame together this afternoon rather than training.  Tomorrow afternoon we will apply the netting and it will be ready for use.  It is going to be so helpful and will allow a lot more batting practice to take place.  I think I will have to start selling tickets to use the net as the players will now be lining up to have a go.

Cricket continues to consume my life here in Kigali.  I recently travelled with the under 19 girl’s team to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania where they competed in a tournament with Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Rwanda came third and won two games.  It was a great week for the girls and the first time a Rwandan girl’s team has won a game.  I have started a blog (adamlarnold.blogspot.com), which contains a bit of information about the tournament and provides some pictures too

The National men’s team training has now ramped up.  I hold training sessions almost every weekday afternoon for two hours and then try to run sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  We have to select a squad of 19 players for a 20/20 tournament in February, 2011.  The mobile net you have provided will be put to good use during the training sessions.  It will ensure we don’t have to use fielders when holding centre wicket batting practice.  This will free up plenty of players so that I can run some technical sessions and work on player weaknesses.   I cannot thank you enough for this net… Attached are some pictures of today’s net construction.  I will send you some more when the net is complete and being used.

Kind Regards,

Adam Arnold
