Andre Kayitera's story........
Andre is serious about integrating HIV awareness into cricket: 'I teach the ABC approach – Abstinence, Be Faithful and Condom Use– because, like in cricket, any mistake can bowl you out. In cricket it is out of the game, but in reality it is to lose life itself. You need as many runs as you can, and in life you need as many chances you can get. AIDS destroys all of this'.

Sometimes, Andre takes his cricket pupils to the AIDS orphanage to bring them food and kind words, but also to show what can happen if you do not protect yourself against AIDS. 'I find this way people listen to me. Rather than being a teacher telling a message to bored students, I can be a leader and encourage my team to go for tests and protect their health. CWB has given me something in my heart to perform my duty to tell as many youth as I can about how they protect themselves from HIV, using the sport I love to do this'.

Andre is right, unless risky sexual behaviour can be diminished the possibilities of contracting HIV remain high. AIDS has a devastating impact on families, friends, societies and the economy.
Andre is 19 years old, and he plays for the Rwandan national team. He coaches cricket 5 times a week in two schools, and he has won trophies at national level, and is starting to participate in international competitions including Nairobi, Kenya.
