Anita Umunyana's story........
Anita was one of the first young Rwandans to become involved in cricket, when, in 2006 the RCA approached three schools to find interested youth to start playing the game. At this time it was in its infancy, but now she is excited the game shows positive signs of becoming a national sport. "Cricket is very new, but Rwanda is already playing in international games, putting Rwanda on the map. Because it is new, it is also very marketable. One of those ways is through the message of HIV awareness.

Another is its ability to bring together all types of people. In cricket you are welcome, whoever you are, wherever you have come from, so long you want to be part of the team, you are welcome".

"CWB never talk to us in a rough way. They understand that errors are OK and they are kind to us and encourage us to learn . This is bringing more children to the game . They never assume we will know everything straight away, but if you do things one step at a time you will succeed"
Anita is a student who lives in Kigali. She also plays for the Rwandan ladies team. CWB awarded her an ICC level 0 in 2007 and in 2008 she returned for her Level 1, which she passed with flying colours.
