Joseph Karamera

 Meet Joseph

joseph profile

My name is Joseph Karemera but you can ‘’Call me JOE’’, I am a 23-year-old Rwandan male born in the East but currently residing in the south of the country. I am a student Doctor at University of Rwanda, but besides that I am a CRICKETER!

Joe's Cricketing Story

At the age of 14 years, I was in junior secondary at Kagarama Secondary School in Kigali, attracted by free t-shirts, bracelets and tennis balls in air during CWB 2011 tour to Rwanda, I joined back of the line with a happy face! One year later I was opening the batting for my school and batting number 4 for Right Guards Cricket Club. 6 years later here I am a CWB Ambassador and a cricket coach engaged in RCA grass root cricket development.

Joe's CWB Story

Being introduced to cricket by CWB, being an ambassador 6 years later down the road, attending different trainings to train, getting a chance to meet new people and travelling the country "uphill" with CWB tour teams whilst lightening up kids’ faces, these will always be good memories.

Joe's Work

I am always happy to see social change through cricket, my work spins around cricket coaching after classes and over the weekends. I coach in 11 schools in Huye and 1 school in Nyamagabe district. Helping take cricket round the country, raising awareness about HIV, its myths and preventive measures, organising HIV testing during CWB end of tour festivals, providing young stars for the under age category teams are some of what lightens my face as I look back.

In Their Own Words...

The smile on a kid’s faces at the sight of tennis balls in air when other factors like school, home etc are constant makes me wish that I could be around them every inch of my time. Have got the undying love of coaching kids up the ladder to competitive cricket.
