Opening up - November 2013

With just over 6 weeks to go till Xmas, now is as good as any time to reflect on CWB's efforts over the last 6 months.

We had volunteers going out on trips to Uganda, Kenya, Botswana and Rwanda, in the process coaching over 15,000 African children and training several hundred new coaches. That is almost 25,000 coached this year, a record for CWB.

But crucially it is what happens between autumn and spring trips that we want to start focusing on. That is why we have provided grants to Cricket Kenya and the Rwanda Cricket Association so that they can employ CWB ambassadors throughout the year to continue our work. So in a first for CWB we have ambassadors in Kenya and Rwanda. This should make what we do even more sustainable.

September saw a hard fought game at Arundel castle between the England ladies team and an inaugural CWB XI. We hope this to be the first of many games for the CWB team.

We also had to say good-bye to a dear friend and supporter of CWB, Martin Bentley, who passed away in Kenya this year. Martin was one of the central figures in helping CWB establish itself in Kenya. You will not be forgotten Martin.

I am sure Martin would be delighted to see the great shape that CWB is in for 2014, which will see us employ our very first CEO from January, David Murray.

We very much looking forward to having David on board to continue us on our target of changing 250,000 African lives through Cricket by 2020.

Thanks again for all your continued support and have a great summer.
