Double Honours for CWB Volunteer
CWB's youngest volunteer, Cameron Foster, has been rewarded for his fantastic fundraising efforts with two major honours. Cameron, who started fundraising for charity after recovering from a horrific ski accident 7 years ago, has been named as the Rotary International of Britain and Ireland Young Citizen of the Year. Cameron will receive his award at a ceremony in Bournemouth on the 14th April which will be shown live on BBC news.
Cameron said "To be named as RIBI Young citizen of the year was a great achievement and I must offer my appreciation to the Rotary Club of Astley for their hard work and support in my nomination. The main reason for the nomination was for my recent trip to Kenya in November with CWB. The nomination was based around my two week project with the charity and definitely helped me achieve this prestigious award. I would like to thank everyone at CWB for initially accepting me onto a project at just the age of 16 and also their continued support after my volunteering experience. I look forward to working with CWB in the future and another trip out to Africa to keep up the amazing work CWB is doing"
But the plaudits don't stop there, at the beginning of the year Cam was announced as one of the first of twelve Olympic Torchbearers. This week he was able to reveal where he will be carrying the torch "I will be doing it in my home town of Hindley on May 31st. It will be a great honour to carry the torch and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me since my accident 7 years ago. I look forward to seeing the Olympic flame pass through Great Britain and Ireland and giving many communities their chance to shine and be a part of the London 2012 Olympic legacy."
Cameron continues to be one of CWB's greatest advocates and he has assured us he will be wearing his CWB wristband with pride at both events. CWB Charity Executive Hannah Weaver said "Everyone at CWB is delighted for Cameron. These awards are just reward for his continuous efforts in raising funds and awareness, not only for CWB, but many other charities too. He is an amazing young man and we are proud to have supported his nomination".
