CWB's work in Rwanda and Kenya will continue between projects after the charity appointed its first ever ambassadors.

The three coaches – two in Rwanda and one in Kenya - will be employed by their country's cricket associations through grant money supplied by CWB.

They will work in schools, universities and orphanages, coaching cricket with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS education.

In the first month alone, Rwanda ambassadors 'Tall' Eric and Audifax Byiringiro coached 1155 children - 578 boys and 577 girls.

CWB head of communications Lee Booth said: "Having the ambassadors on the ground ensures a year-long presence in country filling in the gaps between CWB projects. I have no doubt that this will have a huge impact on the numbers participating in cricket and equally importantly ensure that our HIV/AIDS awareness messages are heard all year round."

Both Eric and Audifax play for the Rwandan national team and have worked with CWB on a number of trips.

Armed with cameras, CWB clothing and equipment, the pair will initially focus on 10 schools each. Eric will be based in the capital Kigali while Audi will be working in the southern province of Nyanze. A large part of their focus will be on training teachers in order to ensure the sustainability of CWB projects.

Charles Haba, president of the Rwandan Cricket Association said the ambassadors would give a huge boost to the development of cricket in the country.

He said: "This will grow our playing numbers as well as impacting on their behaviour."

Kenya also has its first ambassador following the appointment of Nicholas Oluoch last month.

Nicholas worked with the autumn project team and has already coached hundreds of children since they returned to the UK.

He said: "Working with CWB has been really amazing. I am proud of being a team member on this year's trip as well as CWB's Ambassador in Kenya.

"There's nothing more refreshing than spreading happiness and seeing a sad face transformed into one with a big smile and filled with so much joy. Not only do we teach the game of cricket and incorporate the core message of ABC & T as well, but the joy and important message we bring to all those we come across is really amazing.

"This is indeed a great opportunity for cricket in Kenya."
