10 years ago, we were in full swing of setting up CWB around our day jobs. It was a unique experience and something out of the ordinary happened almost every day.

Over the next 18 months, we all had moments which will stay with us forever, ranging from calls with international cricketers and diplomats to teaching a group in Kenya how to coach bowling, only to find out that one of them had claimed the wickets of Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting in a World Cup. But the stand out memories come from the humbling and inspirational experience of working with such amazing people in Africa and their enthusiasm for life, using cricket to help others despite the huge challenges they face, whether HIV/AIDS, the Rwandan genocide, FGM or poverty. I will always treasure having had the opportunity to coach some of the most good-natured and talented children, whether AIDS orphans in the slums outside Nairobi or street kids in Dar es Salaam. One stand out moment was working with teenagers in a former war zone in Northern Uganda - the girls showed the boys a thing or two on the pitch...

As we enter our 10th year, CWB continues to push the boundaries which constrain children and adults in Africa. We have an immensely impressive and dedicated group of volunteers here in the UK who work tirelessly with the sole aim that thousands more children and adults will have their lives touched by CWB.

10 years ago, I undertook the first ever fundraiser for CWB in the form of a sprint triathlon. It seems fitting that as the charity has grown, so should any challenge I undertake and, as such, on 27th September I am attempting Ironman Mallorca. For anyone sensible enough not to know what an Ironman involves, it is a 3.9km (2.4 mile) swim, a 180km (112 mile) bike ride and then a full marathon. 10 times the distance of that first sprint triathlon, 10 years later. There will be highs and lows throughout the day but I know that thinking about the inspirational people I have met on our CWB projects will help carry me through.
