You can be a part of our global team to build and sustain #strongpartnerships to deliver community development through sport
Now more than ever it is vital that important health and social messaging is delivered to communities globally in an innovative and interactive way.
Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB) is a charity which delivers cricket development alongside health and social messages in 4 sub-Saharan African countries, the Middle East, Nepal and the UK. We work on the principle that sport - particularly cricket - should be inclusive and accessible for all.
We believe that by working with national cricket associations, social development, and sports organisations, cricket can be used for community change. Through sports coaching we can increase HIV/AIDS education and awareness, promote gender equality, challenge stigma and taboos, support refugees, and inspire young people to strengthen their communities through teamwork and cooperation.
Committed to our delivery aims, last year our Ambassador coaches and partners used cricket to deliver vital health and social messages to over 600 children every week, across Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Cameroon, Lebanon and Nepal. We are incredibly proud of the hard work put in by our Ambassadors to sustain cricket for good programs for the young people in their communities, during the pandemic.
Inevitably, COVID has impacted our partners’ development plans, especially the cricket associations with whom we have relationships spanning over 15 years. Our mission in 2022 is to use our long-established and well tested volunteer project model to achieve key objectives for getting cricket for good, back on track.
CWB is currently recruiting volunteers for projects in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda for Autumn 2022. Our projects last for up to two weeks and each trip is made up of a team of 6-8 volunteers, with a mix of coaches and non-coaches to ensure a good spread of skills.
Our teams of volunteers will link up with CWB Ambassador coaches, cricket associations and local health organisations to target regions where the community will be trained to deliver cricket for development coaching, so that young people can benefit from our unique methods of learning key health and social messages through play.
We welcome volunteers with a wide range of experiences, including health and education specialists, individuals with community development experience, as well as sports coaches and enthusiasts. A positive attitude, passion for working with others and willingness to make a difference are essential.
Testimonies
Martin Ondeko, CEO Uganda Cricket Association (UCA): “After all the uncertainties caused by COVID-19, we at UCA are pleased that CWB will be returning to Uganda after a 2-year hiatus. UCA and the Ugandan cricket communities at large are looking forward to reigniting the spark in the hubs as well as setting up new ones in virgin areas in the coming years. In all this, we hope the message of cricket together with the fight against AIDS will go a long way in changing societies.”
Emma Byiringiro, Rwanda Cricket Association General Manager: “CWB has been our biggest development partner over the last 12 years. We have reached all the corners and remotest parts of Rwanda with the help of CWB. With the challenges of the COVID 19 pandemic, which has not enabled some of our projects, we are looking forward to now working with CWB to once again increase our participation numbers, as well as coaches and umpires, in the next few years.”
